Gleneagles RV Resort sits in Conroe, TX — three minutes from the northern edge of The Woodlands and about thirty-five minutes from downtown Houston. That puts a surprising amount of Texas within easy reach of your RV site. Here are the local stops we send guests to most.
Lake Conroe
A 21,000-acre lake about fifteen minutes west of the resort. Rent a pontoon at one of the public marinas, grab a lakefront lunch at Papa's on the Lake or Pier 105, or just drive the FM 1097 bridge at sunset. Bass fishing is excellent year-round, and there are public boat ramps if you brought your own.
The Woodlands Waterway
A 1.4-mile walkable waterway through The Woodlands Town Center, lined with restaurants, shops, and outdoor art. Take the free water taxi from Hughes Landing down to Waterway Square. It's the easiest way to spend a relaxed evening near the resort without driving into Houston.
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
Consistently ranked among the top-attended outdoor amphitheaters in the United States. Major touring acts run spring through fall, and the Houston Symphony plays a beautiful series of pops and classical nights under the stars. About a 15-minute drive from the resort — leave early on big-show evenings or rideshare from the front gate.
Market Street & Hughes Landing
Open-air shopping and dining districts in The Woodlands. Market Street has a central lawn with free outdoor events most weekends; Hughes Landing wraps around Lake Woodlands with restaurants like Whiskey Cake, Escalante's, and Local Pour. Both are easy half-day stops.
Day trip: downtown Houston
About thirty-five minutes south on I-45. Worth the drive for the Museum District (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Menil Collection — most with free general admission), Buffalo Bayou Park, or a Houston Astros / Rockets / Texans game depending on the season.
Day trip: Sam Houston National Forest
Twenty minutes north of the resort. The Lone Star Hiking Trail runs 96 miles through pine forest and is the longest continuous hike in Texas; even a one-hour out-and-back is a great morning. Stubblefield Lake and Double Lake offer easy swimming and picnicking in summer.
Where to eat near the resort
A few quick picks within ten minutes of your site: Pacific Yard House(downtown Conroe, sports + scratch kitchen), Tin Roof BBQ(no-frills Texas barbecue), Honor Café (great breakfast), and Crust Pizza Co. for a casual family dinner.
Planning your stay
Most of these spots are easy day trips from any site at the resort. If you're planning around a Pavilion concert or a Lake Conroe weekend, book early — our sites fill up fastest on Friday and Saturday nights spring through fall. Settling in for a longer stretch? Monthly rates start at $600 for regular sites and $650 for large sites.
