EV Charging at an RV Park: How It Works at Gleneagles RV Resort

Every year more guests roll into the resort towing with a hybrid or EV, or driving an electric daily-driver behind the rig. We've leaned into that — every site at Gleneagles has EV charging available, so you don't have to hunt for a Level 2 between adventures or wait in line at a public charger after a long travel day.

What's on site

EV charging is available at every site to registered guests. Level 2 is the right speed for an overnight or multi-day stay — plug in when you park, drive away topped up the next morning. For weekly and monthly guests it essentially eliminates the need to ever visit a public charger for routine driving around The Woodlands or Houston.

If you're driving a Tesla you'll need your J1772 adapter (most Tesla owners already carry one). Any other EV with a standard J1772 port plugs in directly.

Don't charge your EV from your 50-amp RV pedestal

This is the single most common mistake we see. Your 50-amp RV pedestal is sized for the coach — two air conditioners, a microwave, a converter, water heater, possibly a residential fridge and a dryer. Adding an EV on top of that load can trip breakers and, in older parks, damage the pedestal or the park's electrical infrastructure.

Use the dedicated EV chargers instead. They're protected, properly metered, and won't cause your AC to drop out at 2 a.m. on a hot night. It's better for you, better for your neighbors, and better for the park.

Planning I-45 between Houston and Dallas

I-45 between Houston and Dallas is one of the best-covered EV corridors in Texas. From Gleneagles heading north you've got Tesla Superchargers and CCS fast-charging in Huntsville (35 minutes north), Madisonville, Centerville, Buffalo, Corsicana and then into the Dallas-Fort Worth metro. Southbound, downtown Houston is 35 minutes with abundant fast-charging once you reach the metro, plus Tesla and Electrify America sites along the Sam Houston Tollway and I-10.

If you're towing with an EV, plan for shorter legs than you would in a gas truck — towing drops range significantly, often 40-50%. A typical EV with 300 miles of solo range is realistically 150-180 miles between stops with a trailer. Gleneagles is a comfortable mid-point stop for anyone running I-45 between Houston and Dallas with a trailer — Level 2 overnight gets you back to full and lets you actually sleep instead of waiting on a DC fast charger.

EV-friendly day trips from the resort

With a full overnight charge you can easily round-trip to almost anything in the Greater Houston area without needing to charge again until you're back at your site. Downtown Houston, Galveston Island (about 90 minutes south), the Museum District, NRG Stadium, and the entire Woodlands area are all comfortably within range.

If you want to push further — Austin is about 165 miles west via Highway 290, and there are fast chargers in Brenham and Giddings if you need a top-up. Most EVs can make Austin and back over a long day with one charge stop each way.
